Mizzou Made: India 37

In September 1966, the Peace Corps’ 37th group of volunteers descended on the University of Missouri to begin three months of intense Peace Corps training for a food production mission to India. Over 55 years later, the group returned to Mizzou to reunite and visit the place they first met and formed India 37. From April 20-24, 2022, 11 group members and spouses met with Deaton Scholars, toured campus, and learned about CAFNR’s evolution since their time here in the ‘60s.

Leading up to this reunion, India 37 members Frank Fountain and Barry Stevens led a giving campaign to establish the India 37 Endowment in Mizzou’s College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources. Collective contributions from the group quickly endowed the fund in just under a year. The endowment provides support for CAFNR students engaged in activities similar to those of India 37. The food, agriculture, and community development training they received at Mizzou prepared India 37’s members for life-changing experiences in the Peace Corps. To them, they are forever linked to each other and to Mizzou because of those three months on our campus. Our students will always have opportunities to explore ways they can make a difference in international agriculture and community development because of India 37. CAFNR will be forever grateful for this group of donors and their generosity.
